When you are a professional blogger, hosting of your blog is a major issue. These days, many people use Wordpress and I have to say that when your blogging platform is Wordpress then it requires a lot of bandwidth. So, if you have shared hosing and you are using Wordpress platform then if your traffic increases then it can be a big problem. I suffered this kind of problem last year and I have learned my lesson in a very bad way. When you see advertisements of popular hosting company that they are giving you unlimited space and bandwidth then normally it means that you can post many pictures and you don’t have to worry when 100 or 1000 of visitors come in a few minutes to your blog. This should be the ideal situation. Unlimited means unlimited isn’t it?
From my own experience I have understood that this promise of unlimited bandwidth is just a farce. It has no value because if suppose just 500 visitors come at the same moment to your blog then most share the hosting will not support and you will see some kind of notice that your hosting is temporarily suspended or your blog is temporarily unavailable. This is the thing you should remember and what happens is that many times small websites or blobs when they hit the front page of social Bookmarking sites like Fark or Digg then their blog or website may become unavailable to many visitors.
So, when you become a professional blogger then try to know about different hosting solutions. These days, we are hearing a lot about cloud hosting and even I tasted this one but it is not that good either. Cloud hosting has its limitations too when thousands of people come at a short time to your website.
The only good thing to consider is dedicated server. However dedicated server can become very expensive like minimum expense can be $100 per month. So, when your blog or website is growing then try to access the situation in terms of your revenue. You should actively look out for increasing your revenue because you can be sure you have to spend more money for a dedicated server. As for me, I like Google’s blogger hosting for custom domain. This hosting gives almost unlimited support and if you want to get this kind of support from a hosting company then you have to spend at least $200 or $300 dollar per month.
In Google’s blogger hosting, I have noticed 50,000 page views in one hour and nothing happened to my blog. The only problem in this Google’s custom domain support is that you can not install Wordpress and this is the only bad part.

For the last one week, we three blogers could work some more in our blogs and as a result it was a smashing day for our network yesterday. In fact, yesterday our total page view was nearly 40,000. This was amazing because normally we have been getting seven or eight thousand page views for the whole network. So, a single day can make all the difference and really we feel very happy and today I feel a lot of encouragement and energy to work. My health is very weak today and some sick because I have been suffering from Diarrhea. However, because of the good traffic I feel a lot of energy in my mind.
The good part of blogging is that when you give effort then sooner or later results come. We three persons have been working very hard for the last eight days and we have been working regularly. Our blogs are good and we put original content. As a result, we have noticed that google often likes ours content and send good traffic. All are blogs have page rank four and except one and South Asia Blog which has page rank six.
So, from now you should try to work harder and when you get good result then you should be happy.

You know that the ant famous for its saving mentality. It saves food in summer and then in winter in can eat from the savings food. I was thinking today that in blogging, we should feel like an ant. For example, last two days I was very busy for another project and I could not update my blogs. As a result, most of my blogs were empty and there was no new content. I myself know very well that the main reason blogs rank much better than traditional websites. It is that a blog is updated with fresh content. In fact, blogging became popular because it gave you the freedom to update your content as often as you want. In traditional websites, you have to spend a lot of time to upload your content. On the other hand, platforms like Google’s blogspot or wordpress have come to help you so that you don’t have to think of design, data base, or even uploading your content through FTP. In stead all you need to do is just write your entry and then put in your blogger or wordpress account and just hit the publish button. It just takes a few seconds.

So, today, I understood that I must try to be an ant and always keep some extra entries so that when I can not work and publish new entries then those saving entries will be helpful.

I had a good today thanks to Google Trends. Are you an ant blogger?

Yesterday, South Asia Blog had nearly 4900 page views. In February 2010, that blog received nearly 52,000 page views. On the other hand, this blog (Blogging37) just got 353 page views last month. So, you can do the math easily and realize the difference. What made me happy was that South Asia Blog received the entire traffic from Google search. Yes, Yahoo and Bing sent some visitors but not significant enough to talk about. Because of stress and bad health, I stopped blogging in South Asia Blog for nearly two weeks. Today, I decided that it will be my main blog from now and I will my best for it.

I was talking about impact on my mind of Google traffic. When, Google sends a lot of traffic in a day, it brings a lot of joy in my mind. Well, I try not to write about scandals or sex related topics. Instead, I try to get good traffic with sporting events and entertainment and business.

I just hope that Google does not face too much of antitrust problem.

Today I was taking a look at the sitemeters of my different blogs. In February 2010 or the current month my blogs are getting around 200,000 page views. This is not bad but compare to the fact that on November 2009, the blogs got 460,000 page views. So, you can easily understand that my traffic has decreased a lot in the last few months and the only reason for this is that I could not work consistently. I have been suffering from illness and as a result my traffic has decreased almost 60%. When traffic decreases then naturally the income decreases too. So, if you are looking for earning money and you want to become professional blogger then remember this lesson. Try to work almost every day otherwise your traffic will decrease you will not be able to earn good amount of money.

So, from now, I want to updates my blog regularly and I hope that again within two or three months I can reach to that level of nearly half million page views per month.

When you write an entry and upload in your blog then perhaps you think that your work is done. May be, sometimes you try to submit it in to some social bookmarks and email other bloggers about your entry. However, most of us don’t bother to look at blog posts that are more than one week older. Sometimes, they can be important for you. When there were some entries that are relevant to current times then you should try to work out on them. For example, suppose you have written about Christmas and when December comes then you can try to edit it and make it longer with new information.

May be you are thinking that what is the benefit? Pro-blogger Darren Rowse has written an excellent entry about optimization of old content. You can read it here: Optimize a Single Post On Your Blog for SEO

I am thinking of a different angle. For example, you have written something which is one year old and there is new information available on that topic. So, if you modify your content then it will help many visitors. Secondly, after one year you may have additional knowledge about the same content and now you are in a position to give better and more useful advice. This is also helpful to your visitors. Just remember that when you are blogging then your primary objective should be to help your readers and visitors. If you can do so then they will surely be happy to come back regularly and this means that you can increase your income.

So, you have decided to start a blog and you dream to earn some money with it. Just remember that at the beginning, it is difficult to get traffic because you have less content. Secondly, it takes some time to get steady traffic from search engines like Google. So, you have to work harder for less result at the beginning of your blogging life. When you start a blog, it is better if you make a plan in advance for the first month. Try to allocate some extra hours for the opening ceremony.

It is like opening a shop. When you open a shop, you have to give a lot of behind the scene efforts just to reach to the opening ceremony. You have to inform others about your shop and the products and then hope for luck. You have to impress the first time customers so that they come again. The same can be said about blogging. When you open a blog then try to put good content so that your visitors like them and feel the urge to come back again. It is not easy but earning money is not easy in the first place.

You can read a good entry about this topic here: Your First Week of Blogging – Plan Your Future Blog Posts

Today while checking my feedburer stats, I noticed that the number of subscribers has reached to double digit. It is a good news for me as I have not been able to work on this blog seriously. In fact, from the day I started this blog, I have been suffering from illness and as a result, I could not write enough content. In fact, for last two weeks, I did not put a single entry here.

I have been taking some time off and hopefully from today my health is much better and I am back again.

Still I know that I can not put a lot of content here because this is not my main blog. It is a part of the network. What I can do is that I try to put less content but I try to put useful entries here. This will be my plan from this week.

If you are a professional blogger then often you have this kind of dilemma. Now for me, it is the time to get back my physical strength and it is not easy.

The important lesson I learnt this time is that when you do not feel good then try to take a break. I started professional blogging on March 22, 2006. Next month I am going to pass four years of professional blogging. I never stopped blogging even for two or three days. But this time I had to take a break of fourteen days. It is always good to take a break when you need it. Don’t try to over do anything and then it will back fire. This is the most important lesson that I have learned this time.

When I started blogging I thought that having several blogs was the better thing to do. Now, I have changed my opinion and feel that having only one blog is better and in fact, I am trying to follow this method and giving all my focus now on South Asia Blog. I am still updating some of the other blogs but it is only for SEO purposes.

You see, when you have just one blog then you can give all your time and effort. You can write entries on it, put comments on other blogs with the url and most of all you get more skilled when you write on the same topic every day.

When you diversify then you spread yourself too thin and in the end, none of the blogs get proper attention. So, if you are a new blogger then just try to focus on only one. This is the biggest lesson I have learnt after four years, I could take 5 blogs to a decent traffic and income but in the end, none of them became a big hit.

I started blogging from 2005 and in 2006, I saw explosion in this field. Well, I was not a teen and I was not even in the US. Anyway, now, most teenagers in USA feel that Facebook Status Update is cooler than blogging. Blogging is backdated and good for last generation. So, Facebook and Twitter are going to become more popular at the expense of blogging. For professional bloggers like me, it has two sides.

The good side is that there will be less competition and advertising money will be divided less. After all, until now, earning money through blogging is much easier than earning money by Facebook. The bad side is that advertising dollar is where the people are. People are moving towards Facebook and dollars will be moving there too. Another significant loss will be getting backlinks. I remember that in 2006 or 2007 getting backlinks were much easier as there were many active and interested bloggers who did blogging just for fun.

For people like me, money has to come and we have to just work harder.
