I would call it a very big dilemma in blogging and earning money online. I studied Literature and then Applied Linguistics. If you look at the blogosphere then you will not find too many blogs on these two topics because they don’t bring money. In fact, they are not included in high paying keywords. So, the reality is that despite having skill and passion, I am not keen on blogging seriously about either literature or linguistics. Well, your passion is not useless because if you can build up a blog on literature then you can get some ghost writing projects. If you can write good short stories and novels and this way can generate some decent number of readers then who knows you can land even a book deal or a movie deal. There is no guarantee that it would happen to me or you but it is possible.
On the other hand, high paying keywords perhaps is less risky because if you can give time and effort then it would bring some money. For example, writing about gadgets can always bring some money even with small amount of visitors compared to Hollywood or Sports. This is my own personal experience. However, remember that if you do not have passion with gadgets then it is very difficult to shine in this field. I have been a freelance journalist on Information Technology for a decade in my city but I must admit that I like to write about sports or business more than gadgets.
So, in the end, you can see that I could not give you good answer to the question that I started this entry with. Well, it all depends on how much time and effort you can give. I believe that you can become successful with your passion and high paying keywords both if you have enough time to give. I will try to give more time and I will try to go for both of them.
